Kickin' it in O'lando

I made my second trip in 3 months to Orlando this week. Here are the highlights:

1. I saw the restroom where a certain senator from Idaho solicited a police officer. It was amazing how many people on the plane knew exactly where it was.

2. My flight from Minneapolis to Cleveland was on a brand new 737, straight from the hangar to our gate. We had to pull the rubber bands off our seat belts and the plastic off the tray tables. This was very cool, until about 20 minutes into the flight when the overwhelming smell of the leather seats was starting to make people sick. Think new car smell times 150, positively nauseating.

3. I had dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, which was lost on me because I don't eat steak.

4. I was 30 miles from the hottest place in the nation and the coldest place in the nation in an 8 hour stretch.

5. I stayed at the Holiday Inn and my room had bunk beds! I slept on the bottom bunk every night.

6. I got to wear flip flops the whole time and got sunburned in less than 20 minutes.

7. Flying first class is way different than coach. No one ever made me turn off my Ipod or buckle my seatbelt. They really do let you do whatever you want. I like it.

My final thought is that Orlando is no place to go when you have a family that you miss terribly back home. I was counting the minutes back to Idaho.

I'm very sorry to hear that you couldn't appreciate a Ruth's Chris steak. I hope you got the seafood gumbo?

I seem to recall that you get a little nauseous on airplanes anyway, Steph. How did you do with the overwhelming leather smell?

BTW, my one and only experience with first class was where I was called by my first name, served champagne in a real champagne glass and offered a steamy towel in order to wipe my hands after our meal. It was delightful.

Also, I must say - you sure do have some unique adventures when you travel! Bunkbeds? Who-da-thunk!!

I did not get the seafood gumbo but one of the men I was with insisted I try his new york strip steak which was a little morsel of heaven in my mouth.
Also, I would have preferred that hot towel after I ate my four course meal, but really, I can't complain about much up there. Surprisingly, I got through 5 separate flights without vomiting, a record for me.

Now, remind me why you don't eat steak?

Ka- I have never been a fan of red meat for some reason, and since I can't have a steak cooked like that every time why bother?

Understood.

Except that if you get some tri-tip from costco and marinade it in this:

INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons dried basil
1 1/2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
1.Place the soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, basil, parsley, and pepper in a blender. Add hot pepper sauce and garlic, if desired. Blend on high speed for 30 seconds until thoroughly mixed.
2.Pour marinade over desired type of meat. Cover, and refrigerate for up to 8 hours. Cook meat as desired.

I mean, I know it violates your ingredient limitation, but it's worth a whirl if you're going to fire up the grill anyway...

I'll try it, Ka - thanks!
